Godshill Cricket Club was formed in 1948 and originally played at Sainham Farm before moving to Ternal Mead and then finally Rongs Field where they remained for many years. In 2006 an attempt to renovate the Pavilion was unsuccessful, and the Club moved to Rookley for a while. Godshill were consistently one of the strongest village teams on the Island and often took part in Division 1 of the Morey's League, wining it in 1983, and won the Whitbread Cup in 1973.
Discussions took place in 2017 about the possible combination of playing resources of the two neighbouring Clubs. After a successful trial period, a formal merger took place in 2019 and the Club was re-named "Shanklin & Godshill CC".
